Our team seeks to understand the function of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in mammalian synapse development and plasticity. Notably, we recently uncovered a large pool of circRNAs with a prominent expression in neuronal dendrites. Based on this finding, we envision that specific dendritic circRNAs could regulate local protein synthesis, thereby acting as important modulators of synapses with implications for higher cognitive functions, such as learning and memory.
